About Us

Mission

OUTVETS is a nonpartisan nonpolitical 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to recognizing and honoring the contributions and sacrifices of LGBTQ Veterans, active service members, and their families through social interaction, community service, and public awareness.

What makes OUTVETS different from other LGBTQ organizations?

OUTVETS is a non-political organization that is modeled on grassroots community engagement through service and social interaction as represented by time-honored Veteran Services Organizations such as the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. OUTVETS was founded on the core values of Pride, Honor and Sacrifice: Pride in our community, Honor in our service and Sacrifice for our Nation.

Vision and Initiatives

OUTVETS is building an organization that promotes the interest of and fosters community and esprit de corps among Veterans and active service members within the LGBTQ community as well as with the Veteran community as a whole. This goal will be achieved through community service projects and partnerships with other Veteran and social services organizations.

OUTVETS' Inaugural Initiatives include but are not limited to:

  • Living History Project – Memorializing the service of LGBTQ Veterans through stories of serving in various eras and the struggles and rewards incurred by all.
  • Monument and Memorial – Forming a strategic planning team to research a location and oversee the development of a memorial to LGBTQ service.
  • LGBTQ Veterans Retreat Week – This week will bring together LGBTQ Veterans from all over the nation and the world for socializing as well as workshops on legal issues, medical issues and substance abuse, financial awareness and community outreach.
